The Papers of Susan D. Alter, 197?-199?

The Susan Alter Papers, 1978-1993, consist of records covering her career as a New York City Council Member from Districts 32 and 35 in Brooklyn. These records reconstruct Susan Alter's career as a public servant. There is documentation on the daily activities of her local community office, her terms in City Council, and her election campaigns from her early forays to her run for Public Advocate. Included as well as correspondence both to and from Ms. Alter, her constituents, and colleagues. There are also files on issues that she took on during her terms such as the rights of Jewish women, race relations and community policiing. Finally, there are large number of posters, fliers and other memorabilia from Ms. Alter's campaign. This colleciton also includes some information about other New York campaigns such as mayoral races which took place betwen 1978 and 1993.
